What To Expect

1. Initial inquiry/

Intake phone call

When you call Springboard, you will speak with one of our patient care coordinators. You will have a chance to tell our patient care coordinator about your child and your concerns, and our patient care coordinator will tell you more about the programs we offer at Springboard Pediatric Therapy.  On that call, we will begin to navigate the insurance process, and we can schedule the appropriate evaluations with our therapy team.

If you prefer, you can begin the process with an email to our patient care team at admin@springboardtherapy.com

3. Evaluation

Based on the initial intake call, your child will be scheduled for evaluations with the appropriate specialists. If your child is going to be evaluated for more than one service, each specialist will perform their own evaluation. Each evaluation will be an hour. Evaluations are discipline-specific aimed at identifying areas of challenge and crafting a personalized plan of care to meet your child’s and your family’s needs.

While we can’t learn everything about your child in an hour, the information we gather serves as a springboard to launch your therapy journey with us. Once therapy begins and we get to know your child more, the plan of care can be adjusted and finely tuned.

Reports are finalized within 10 business days of the evaluation. You can find your child’s evaluation reports in the patient portal.

While our standard practice is to begin therapy immediately, we are able to hold a report review meeting to review our findings in detail and to answer any questions you may have. Because insurance coverage is usually limited to direct therapy with your child, consultation meetings are billed as an out-of-pocket expense. If you wish to have a report review meeting, you can mention this to our patient care coordinator at any point in the intake process, and they will help schedule the meeting

4. Scheduling Therapy

At the time of evaluation, our therapists are able to determine if your child would benefit from services at Springboard Pediatric Therapy. Scheduling of therapy services often happens at the time of evaluation. You can work with one of our patient care coordinators to find a day and time that works for your family’s schedule.

5. Therapy & Consultation

The majority of our sessions are individual 1:1 sessions with a single provider. If deemed appropriate, your child’s therapy plan may include co-treatment sessions where more than one therapist (e.g., SLP and OT) treat collaboratively. Also, there are occasional opportunities for groups of two (dyads) or three (triads) depending on client compatibility and availability. Insurance coverage for co-treatment and group sessions may vary based on insurance provider/plan.

For individual therapy sessions, parents are encouraged–but not required–to join the sessions, especially for new Springboard clients or for young children. During the session, parents can observe, join in, and ask questions about concepts being targeted. Parents have the opportunity to practice strategies with their child and receive feedback from their child’s therapist.

Therapy sessions at Springboard Pediatric Therapy Center are 45 minutes long. Of those 45 minutes, 38 minutes are face-to-face treatment time. This face-to-face time includes a brief conference with parents at the end of each session. Parents should expect a short recap of the session, as well as information on any carry-over activities or strategies for home.

You may find that you have new concerns about your child’s development, questions about the treatment plan, or you may want to discuss sensitive topics with your child’s therapist (e.g., if there has been a big change at home, change at school, etc.). We find these conversations are best held in an adults-only setting. If you find yourself wanting a more in-depth conversation about anything related to your child’s therapy, we can schedule a consultation meeting with the pertinent team members. Because insurance coverage is usually limited to direct therapy with your child, consultation meetings are billed as an out-of-pocket expense. To learn more or to schedule a consultation meeting, call our office to speak with one of our patient care coordinators.
